St. Paul Square
District was originally settled in the 1700's as a farming
community that supported the Mission San Antonio de
Valero, otherwise known as the Alamo. The area's development
progressed slowly through the early nineteenth century,
eventually blossoming as a center of trade. Homes were
built, commerce established and retail shops flourished
after the coming of the railway in 1877. Built in 1902,
"The Building of 1,000 Lights",
the Depot was one of the stops for the famous Sunset
Limited, a train that connected San Francisco with New
Orleans and San Antonio.
